Frequently asked questions
Why does my wool product have a distinct scent upon opening?
Each Shanti Collection item is handcrafted in small batches and travels directly from our artisans to Shanti Collections before reaching you. This can mean a natural wool scent when first unboxed, a mark of authenticity and our careful production process.
How can I reduce the wool scent?
If you prefer a milder scent, here are some effective methods:
Air it out: Simply place your wool item in a well-ventilated area or outside for a few hours.
Use charcoal: Activated charcoal is excellent for absorbing scents. Put the wool item in a bag with a small amount of charcoal for a day.
Essential oils: For a fresh aroma, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a cotton ball and store it with your wool item.
How should I care for and clean my Shanti Collections wool items?
Taking care of your wool felt products is really very easy. There are just a few things to keep in mind, however, because of the incredible properties of natural wool, they make perfect low-maintenance products.
The washability of any felt product is often assessed by the quality of the wool used. Shanti Collection uses only use 100 % ethically sourced wool from New Zealand's highlands, which makes it durable enough to be hand washed and can withstand rough handling. To keep your wool pieces in great condition, avoid machine washing or drying, as this will cause the wool to shrink. For cleaning:
Spot clean only: Use a mild soap or gentle detergent on the affected area with a damp cloth. Allow it to air dry fully.
Soak + Squeeze: Fill a container with cool, soapy water and submerge + gently agitate by hand your wool project. Once manually cleaned, remove, squeeze excess water, reshape and lay flat to dry… in sunlight, near dehumidifier, or another well ventilated space.
Avoid heat and agitation: Wool is delicate and sensitive to heat and friction, which can cause it to shrink.
